SEOUL, Sept. 24 (Korea Bizwire) – In a display of digital prowess, the South Korean military has clinched its third consecutive victory at CyberNet 2024, a prestigious international cybersecurity competition hosted by the Dutch Cyber Command.

The event, held from September 10 to 13, showcased the cyber capabilities of NATO member states and partner countries.

The Cyber Operations Command of South Korea announced the win, highlighting the country’s growing prominence in the global cybersecurity arena.

This year’s competition featured nine teams, including powerhouses such as the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and a team representing the European Union, all engaging in real-time cyber attack and defense operations.

South Korea’s ascent in the competition has been swift and impressive. After making its debut in 2021 with a second-place finish, the nation has dominated the event for three years running.

This year’s team consisted of eight cyber warriors who collaborated to develop strategies and hone their technical skills while exchanging expertise and experiences with international counterparts.

Major Han Kyung-yong, who led the South Korean team, expressed pride in their achievement. “We’re delighted to have performed so well after our thorough preparation,” he said.

“We’re committed to applying the experience gained from this international cyber competition to excel in actual operations and fulfill our duties.”

The competition, which began in 2018, has become a significant event in the cybersecurity calendar, attracting participants from across the NATO alliance and its partners.

It serves as a platform for nations to test their cyber capabilities and foster international cooperation in the rapidly evolving digital security landscape.

Looking ahead, the South Korean Cyber Operations Command plans to further develop its cyber operations capabilities.

Next month, it will host the Whitehat Contest & Conference, an event that brings together civilian, government, and military participants. The command also aims to strengthen multinational cyber exchange and cooperation.

Major General Jo Won-hee, commander of the Cyber Operations Command, underscored the significance of the win.

“Our three consecutive victories in this international cyber competition prove that our military’s cyber capabilities are world-class,” he stated.

“We will continue to strive to improve our military’s cyber operations abilities.”
