SEOUL, Jan. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean elite military units are conducting a joint anti-terror sniper training exercise at the Suseong Firing Range in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, the Marine Corps announced on January 22.
The three-day exercise, which began on January 20 and continues through January 23, brings together sniper teams from multiple branches of the South Korean military, including the Marine Corps Special Search Battalion, Air Force 259th Special Mission Battalion (CCT), Army 701st Special Forces Regiment, and the Special Warfare School.
The training focuses on operating under adverse conditions, with participants conducting shooting exercises at ranges from 100 to 800 meters in harsh winter conditions and strong winds. The program includes obstacle course shooting and nighttime operations.
Participating units are conducting exchange firing exercises using their branch-specific combat equipment. The training also incorporates rifle and pistol shooting for close combat scenarios, aimed at improving snipers’ survivability and crisis response capabilities.
“This joint exercise has strengthened cooperation between the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps through tactical exchanges,” said the Marine Corps Special Search Battalion’s sniper team leader. “We will continue to build a stronger military through ongoing collaboration.”
Lieutenant Colonel Kwon Dae-jung, commander of the Special Search Battalion, emphasized the strategic importance of sniper operations in modern warfare. “Although sniper missions are carried out by small teams, they are a formidable presence on the modern battlefield,” he said. “We will maintain complete combat readiness to protect our nation and its people.”
