SEOUL & Queensland, July 24 (Korea Bizwire) — The multinational military exercise “Talisman Saber,” led by the U.S. and Australia, commenced on July 22 with a two-week schedule, bringing together 30,000 troops from 13 countries, including South Korea, Japan, and Germany.
During the Talisman Saber exercise at Shoalwater Bay Training Center in Queensland, Australia, South Korean Marines showcased their formidable K9 self-propelled howitzer (K-9 Thunder). This cutting-edge artillery system represents one of Korea’s flagship defense exports and recently gained recognition in a defense export contract with Poland, further affirming its outstanding performance.
The K9 self-propelled howitzer boasts a rapid-fire capability, allowing it to unleash three consecutive shots in just 15 seconds. It exhibits an impressive range, capable of targeting any location within a radius of up to 55 kilometers.
Moreover, its exceptional mobility, a crucial attribute for self-propelled guns, is evident in its maximum speed of 67 kilometers per hour and an operational range of 360 kilometers, complemented by excellent turning capabilities.
In a notable first, the ROK Navy’s Talisman Saber training squadron, including the Marado, set sail from Busan Operational Base on June 28 to participate in the Talisman Saber exercise. This exercise has been held every other year (odd-numbered years) since its inception in 2005, and South Korea’s participation marks a significant milestone for their naval forces.
