BORYEONG, Jul. 1 (Korea Bizwire) – Daecheon Beach, the largest beach on South Korea’s west coast, opened its shores to vacationers on June 29, kicking off a 51-day summer season that promises a mix of traditional beach activities and unique cultural experiences.

Located in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, Daecheon Beach will welcome visitors until August 18, according to city officials. This year, the beach is introducing several new features to attract a diverse range of visitors.

In a nod to pet owners, a dedicated 80-meter “pet beach” has been established in front of Seagull Plaza. This area allows visitors to enjoy water activities with their pets, although dangerous breeds are excluded. The pet-friendly zone is equipped with amenities such as snack exchange booths and shower facilities for animals.

The beach’s opening sets the stage for the 27th Boryeong Mud Festival, scheduled to run from July 19 to August 4. This year’s festival introduces new attractions, including a “Mud Immersion Zone” where visitors can fully indulge in the region’s famous mud. Other additions include the Mud Valley and Mud Fondue experiences.

The festival will transform the Mud Plaza beach into a “Mud on the Beach” area, offering self-applied mud treatments and hosting “Mud Mob Scenes.” The event will culminate with a fireworks display over the sea.

Adding to the summer’s attractions, Daecheon Beach and the Boryeong Yacht Racing Area will host the 16th National Marine Sports Festival from July 31 to August 3. The event will feature four official sports — yachting, canoeing, fin swimming, and triathlon — along with four exhibition sports and 15 marine and land-based experiential activities.

From August 8 to 11, the beach will also host the 5th Island Day Commemoration event. This gathering aims to promote island development policies and showcase the diverse cultures and experiences of South Korea’s islands.

A Boryeong city official emphasized the beach’s all-inclusive appeal, stating, “Visitors don’t need to bring anything special to Daecheon Beach. We hope they can stay, enjoy themselves, relieve stress, and create special memories.”

Meanwhile, Muchangpo Beach, famous for its “mysterious sea road” — a natural phenomenon where the sea parts to reveal a path — will open on July 6 and operate for 44 days until August 18.
