SEJONG, Dec. 10 (Korea Bizwire) – The National Tax Service (NTS) of South Korea has implemented an AI-powered cybersecurity monitoring system to safeguard tax data against a surge in hacking attempts.

Officially launched in December following a successful trial in October, the system significantly enhances the speed and efficiency of threat detection and response.

The AI system uses machine learning to analyze real-world attack data, enabling it to automatically identify and counter threats like Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks and malware infections. Unlike the previous manual system, which required over five minutes to address a single threat, the AI system can process thousands of security alerts simultaneously, with each case analyzed in under a second.

During its two-month stabilization period, the new system reportedly blocked hundreds of security threats daily, with no successful breaches recorded. Beyond speed, the AI automates key tasks, including attack mitigation and the dissemination of threat information, previously handled manually by staff.

An NTS representative called the initiative a transformative step toward “scientific taxation,” highlighting its potential to elevate the agency’s cybersecurity standards while ensuring the integrity of critical tax information.
