MUNGYEONG, Oct. 5 (Korea Bizwire) - A very special final match was held at the 2015 Gyeongbuk Mungyeong Military World Games on October 4.

The event was shot put. Only two athletes were enrolled in the event, so they went straight to the finals without the preliminaries.

Sergeant Elizabeth Wersil (25) from the U.S. and army corporal Pelegrina Caputo (30) from Italy were the two participants, and both of them have prosthetic legs.

After six throws, Wersil took the gold with a throw of 6.46 meters. Since the event was not an official part of the games, the gold medal Wersil received was not included in the official count.

Wersil entered the army in 2008, following in the footsteps of her father, who was a veteran of the Vietnam War. She was on a mission in Iraq in 2010 when she was wounded in an accident. After three operations, she was fitted with an artificial leg. Before participating in the military games this year, she had already distinguished herself as a swimmer.

She expressed her condition as “finding a new life” instead of “recovering from an injury” in a previous interview with the American press.
