SUWON, March 29 (Korea Bizwire) – Recent survey results show that sports club activities make school more fun for students.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education conducted a survey on 2,761 students from elementary school to high school during the month of February.
Results of the survey showed that more than half of the students answered that ‘sports clubs made their school life fun’ (56.4 percent), and that sports helped build relationships with other friends (16.7 percent).
Students thought that larger sports events such as national and provincial competitions were more important than competitions held at school.
They preferred events that were hosted by both students and teachers (69.9 percent) over events hosted only by students (20.1 percent) and teachers (10 percent).
Data also shows that students are more interested in having fun with more students rather than winning a large competition.
The majority of the students surveyed preferred to participate in league series rather than tournament games (69.2 percent), and sports matches between classes rather than between sports clubs (70.4 percent).
As many students who answered the survey mentioned the need for training student referees (54.6 percent), the educational office plans to financially support 1,298 school sports clubs in the area.
