SEOUL, Aug. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — Marking the 78th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japan’s colonial rule, Starbucks Korea revealed its plans on Monday to introduce a line of products celebrating Liberation Day, starting from Tuesday.
These offerings will showcase traditional Korean design elements, with items like mother-of-pearl coasters, exquisite mother-of-pearl boxes, and elegantly designed tumblers.
The incorporation of mother-of-pearl reflects the inherent beauty of Korea’s rich cultural heritage.
Furthermore, as a gesture of commemoration, Starbucks will generously contribute a handwritten excerpt from Kim Gu (1876-1949)’s “Jisung Gamcheon” (meaning “Extreme Sincerity Touches the Heavens”) to the National Trust for Cultural Heritage.
Kim, whose pen name was Baekbeom, remains a revered figure in Korean history, recognized for his unwavering pursuit of peace and Korea’s independence.
Since 2015, Starbucks has been dedicated to honoring Korea’s eminent independence activists by donating autographed mementos from esteemed figures such as Kim Gu, Ahn Chang-ho and Han Yong-un.
This latest contribution marks the seventh of its kind.
For the past decade, starting in 2013, Starbucks has annually introduced limited-edition products commemorating Liberation Day and Independence Movement Day.
A portion of the proceeds from these sales is allocated to the Independence Heritage Protection and Scholarship Fund for the Descendants of Independence Heroes.
