SEOUL, May 8 (Korea Bizwire) – Starbucks Korea announced on May 7 that the cumulative number of customers using personal reusable cups at its domestic stores reached the 150 million milestone last month.
The use of reusable cups saw a sharp rise, skyrocketing from 9.39 million instances in 2018 to 29.35 million last year. In the first four months of 2024 alone, reusable cups were used 9.53 million times at Starbucks.
According to the coffee company, the monetary value of the discounts and rewards customers have received for bringing their own cups amounts to 64.2 billion won to date.
When using a personal cup at Starbucks, customers can either receive a 400 won discount or earn an “eco star” reward point. This year so far, discounts have been given 2.82 million times, while eco star points were awarded 6.71 million times.
In an effort to further promote reusable cup usage, Starbucks has designated the 10th of each month as a “No Single-Use Cup Day,” doubling the eco star reward to two points for customers who bring their own cup.
On these designated days, when ordering a beverage with a registered Starbucks card and personal reusable cup, customers can opt to receive two eco star points per cup instead of the usual one. The reward preference can be set in the Starbucks app under “Account Info” and “Personal Cup Reward Settings,” where users choose between the discount or star accumulation.
Collecting 12 Starbucks stars entitles a customer to a free drink coupon.
