SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — Starbucks Coffee Korea said Wednesday it had released a series of flower pots made from upcycled coffee grounds.
Upcycling refers to a process that goes beyond simple recycling of waste to add eco-friendly design and utility to create a whole new product.
A single flower pot is made from coffee grounds generated from brewing six cups of tall-sized Americano.
The local unit of the U.S. coffee giant, in alignment with a monthly campaign jointly held with the Korea Zero Waste Movement Network, will give out the upcycled flower pots from Oct. 10-31 to 2,300 customers who have frequently used personal multi-use cups.
The flower pot kit consists of a pot, culture soil mixed with coffee grounds and herb seeds.
