SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Korea Bizwire)The state weather agency has introduced a vehicle that can be dispatched directly to disaster areas to ensure more accurate and detailed measurements of the local meteorological situation.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said that it is currently operating a mobile observation vehicle that was developed late last year to ensure the provision of meteorological prediction data in needed areas, including disaster areas.

The observation vehicle was made by modifying a 15-person van by installing meteorological equipment, data processing devices and an antenna on its roof.

Included inside the vehicle are equipment storage boxes, work space and power facilities, with large-sized monitors, helium gas cylinders and power entry units being installed on its rear side.

The mobile observation vehicle will be dispatched directly to areas where meteorological disasters like wildfire, typhoons, heavy rain and snow occur.

After being dispatched, the vehicle carries out a meteorological observation for ground, air and road conditions depending on the purpose of dispatch and field situation.

The vehicle collects and stores the data it collects through a data processing device, while sending the stored data to the KMA’s internal network.
