SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s state weather agency said Tuesday that it will expand the scope of a service that provides information on past weather records.

The service provides official weather data based on past weather observations and special reports, data which is often used as a reference to solve various disputes in court, at police stations, and with insurance companies.

The Korea Meteorological Administration plans to increase the number of outposts that offer the weather record service to as many as 600 locations, as part of the response to climate change and the ensuing need for a more objective observation of weather throughout various regions.

The types of information the service will newly include data sorted by month, year, and extremal values, along with data sorted by time and day.

The number of requests for official weather records increased in number from 27,000 cases in 2016 to 70,000 cases by last year.
