SEOUL, April 5 (Korea Bizwire) – Televisions produced by small and medium-sized companies are becoming popular for their unique value proposition of a high-quality image at a reasonable price.
According to online shopping site Tmon (www.tmon.co.kr), the Q1 sales of TVs manufactured by small-size domestic companies increased by 63 percent year over year. As a result, sales of small and mid-sized products in the TV category jumped from 31 percent to 55 percent within a year.
Tmon officials explain that the reason for the sales increase is obvious. “The core components of the TVs are supplied by Samsung and LG, so the quality doesn’t differ much. The small businesses are also investing in the development of cutting edge technology to make UHD TVs and curved screen TVs that are half the price of big brand products,” a Tmon representative said.
In addition, the increase in the number of single-person households and the number of households with multiple TVs also had a positive influence on sales growth.
Currently, the average price of TVs manufactured by small brands sold on the Tmon site is 319,000 won. The lowest price for a 32-inch TV is 150,000 won, and prices of 40-inch TVs start at 250,000 won.
Officials at Tmon comment that they are offering extended warranty coverage for those purchasing budget TVs to increase the credibility of the new products with consumers.
