SEOUL, March 14 (Korea Bizwire) — More than 80% of Generation Z college students in South Korea oppose recent tuition hikes, according to a new survey released on March 13.
The study, conducted by Vinulabs Insight through the college community platform Everytime, surveyed 204 university students between February 28 and March 4. It found that 84.8% of respondents viewed tuition increases negatively, while only 7.84% expressed support.
When asked why they opposed the increases, 80.9% of students cited the financial burden of academic expenses as their primary concern. Other major reasons included insufficient explanation of student benefits (52.6%), lack of transparency about the reasons for the increase (49.7%), and concerns that the rate of increase was too high (31.8%).
Despite their opposition, students indicated several areas where they would expect improvements if tuition were to increase. These included better campus facilities and infrastructure (71%), improved educational quality (69.1%), and expanded academic opportunities (64.7%).
The survey focused on Generation Z students, defined as those born between the mid-1990s and early 2000s.
