SEOUL, Mar. 5 (Korea Bizwire) –A recent survey conducted by the market research firm Consumer Insight has revealed that T Map’s stronghold in the smartphone navigation market has further intensified over the past year.

The study, which involved 15,967 respondents who purchased new cars within the last three years and use smartphone navigation, found that T Map commands a staggering 74% market share, meaning three out of four drivers opt for T Map for their navigation needs.

Following T Map, KakaoMap holds a 12% share, and Naver Map comes in at 7%. The combined usage of other navigation services including Waze by Google Maps, Atlan, and U+ Kakao Navi, among others, is on par with Naver Map, each capturing a 7% share.

The study highlighted a significant shift in user preference, with T Map’s user base growing by 6 percentage points compared to the previous year’s survey, while KakaoMap saw a 6 percentage point decline. The market shares for Naver Map and other services remained unchanged.

Consumer Insight suggested that the migration of users from KakaoMap to T Map could be attributed to the former’s frequent service disruptions, which have led to lower satisfaction levels and unmet expectations regarding route guidance.

Notably, KakaoMap experienced notable access errors during November and December 2022 and again in September and October of last year, causing inconvenience to its users.
