TAEBAEK, South Korea, Feb. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — One of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province’s premier winter festivals, the Taebaeksan Mountain Snow Festival, officially opened on February 7 and will run through February 16. The festival, held across Taebaeksan National Park, Culture Square, and Hwangji Pond, showcases large-scale snow sculptures, winter sports activities, and a variety of entertainment options.
Celebrating its 32nd edition, the festival has been rebranded for the first time as the 2025 Taebaeksan Mountain Snow Festival, reflecting its ambition to evolve into a more globally recognized event.
Expanding International and Domestic Exchange
This year, the festival will welcome official delegations from three sister cities: Baguio and Bauang in the Philippines, as well as Ansan in Gyeonggi Province. These visits aim to strengthen cultural, economic, and tourism partnerships between Taebaek and its international and domestic counterparts.
City officials expressed optimism about the expanded cooperation, stating, “We expect the participation of international delegations to enhance the festival’s reputation and foster deeper collaboration in various sectors.”
A Lineup of Winter Attractions
A grand opening ceremony is set for February 8 at Taebaek Highlands Gymnasium, featuring performances by popular musicians. Throughout the festival, visitors can enjoy:
- International university snow sculpture competition
- Catch! Tiniping-themed photo zone
- Winter sports experiences, including sledding and snow tubing
- Taebaek Singing Contest
- Snowflower cosplay and a national snow hiking competition
Enhanced Accessibility for Visitors
To accommodate festivalgoers, Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) will operate a special Saemaeul train service between Seoul Station and Taebaek Station on February 9 and 16, offering two round-trip journeys per day.
With its expanded programming and international presence, the 2025 Taebaeksan Mountain Snow Festival aims to further establish itself as a major winter tourism destination in South Korea.
