SEOUL, July 22 (Korea Bizwire)Hailing a taxi becomes much more difficult around midnight and on Fridays, a consumer advocacy group said Thursday.

The Korea Consumer Agency conducted an online survey of 1,000 consumers using a taxi-hailing platform, in which consumers experienced the most difficulty hailing a cab during certain hours (52.7 percent) and going short distances (52.6 percent).

Sorted by time frame, consumers made an average of 3.15 attempts to hail a cab between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m., exceeding the average number of attempts at other hours by 1.66 times.

Sorted by day, the average number of attempts required to hail a cab was the highest on Fridays (2.63 times). Consumers attempted to hail a cab 1.6 times on Mondays and 1.74 times on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The Korea Consumer Agency pointed out that consumers should be better informed about the charges for canceling taxi-hail requests, which in some cases force the consumer to pay the entire fare as part of the cancellation charges.
