Team Archery Champions Go for 2nd Gold in Mixed Event

PARIS, Aug. 1 (Korea Bizwire)After helping their respective men’s and women’s teams to gold medals in archery at the Paris Olympics, Kim Woo-jin and Lim Si-hyeon will join forces for the mixed team event in the French capital Friday.

Kim and Lim, by virtue of being the top South Koreans in the men’s and women’s ranking rounds last Thursday, will represent the archery powerhouse. They were also the best performers overall in their ranking rounds, with Lim setting the world record with 694 points out of a possible 720.

They will be the No. 1 seed in the 16-team tournament. They will face Chinese Taipei in the first knockout match at Invalides.

The mixed team event was added to the Olympics for the first time in Tokyo in 2021. An San and Kim Je-deok of South Korea won the inaugural gold medal.

An didn’t make the women’s team this time, and while Kim returned for his second Olympics, Kim Woo-jin outperformed him in the ranking round.

Kim Woo-jin has won three Olympic gold medals and all have come in the men’s team event. Lim is competing in her first Olympics.

Also on Friday, judoka Kim Min-jong, the reigning world champion in the men’s +100 kilograms, will go after his first Olympic medal.

At the 2021 Olympics, Kim lost in the round of 16, his very first match of the competition. Now 23 years old, Kim is seen as a strong medal contender.

Competing on the other side of the bracket will be the French star Teddy Riner, who has won two gold medals and two bronze medals in this event over the past four Olympic Games. He also lit the Olympic cauldron during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
