SEJONG, Nov. 5 (Korea Bizwire)Plans are underway to introduce a new residential service that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to ensure the health and safety of the elderly living in public rental houses.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Land & Housing Corp. jointly announced on Thursday the launch of a trial project to install state-of-the-art AI and IoT devices at 100 elderly households in public rental apartments in the southwestern city of Gwangju, and provide a variety of smart care services 24 hours a day.

When someone at home remains inactive for certain amount of time (30 minutes for daytime, 60 minutes at night), sensors sends alerts to caregivers, enabling them to better cope with emergency situations.

In particular, through advance analysis of personal data on life patterns, including activities, excursions and sleep, the new residential service will inform caregivers if abnormal patterns are detected.

In addition, after checking the underlying diseases of residents in advance, it will provide information on the time to take medicines and the visiting schedule of caregivers in a voice format.

By installing an emergency SOS bell and AI speaker at homes, residents will be able to have two-way communication with caregivers in real time when emergency situations take place or health problems occur.
