SEOUL, April 19 (Korea Bizwire) – Both wealth and age have become deciding factors in determining lifestyle after retirement.

The number of ‘active seniors’ –those can afford to enjoy their favorite things given comfortable financial circumstances – is rising, and this trend is changing travel patterns, overseas travel in particular, according to an April 18 report from Hana Tour, Korea’s largest travel agency.

The report revealed that demand for overseas travel by retirees in their 60s, 70s and 80s rose 36 percent last year.

According to the report, which was entitled ‘Analysis into Demand for Trips Abroad by Age Category’, demand for travel abroad by those in their 60s increased 30.4 percent. The desire to take a trip overseas proved to be proportional to age, with those in their 70s and 80s showing figures of 34.4 and 43.2 percent respectively.

As you grow older, you become more and more eager to go abroad, based on the results of the study. During the same period, the average demand for overseas travel among all age groups rose 21.2 percent.

Senior travelers’ favorite destinations include China, Southeast Asia, and Japan. Even though seniors want to enjoy travel abroad, long-distance journeys could be difficult given their physical state.

The most popular tour destinations have evolved over the years. In 2015, the preferred tour locations were Northern Kyushu in Japan, Vietnam, and Huabei, the northern part of mainland China.
