SEOUL, Jul. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — Thousands of people gathered in the heart of the South Korean capital to take part in a water gun fight in the sweltering summer heat over the weekend.
Under the theme ‘aliens versus humans’, this year’s two day-long Shinchon Water Gun Festival proved a hit with young people, attracting over 50,000 participants during the first day alone.
Between Sinchon station and the entrance to the Yonsei University campus, nearly one kilometer of roadway was packed with event attendees, many of whom were sporting a water gun and sunglasses while delighting in the festive atmosphere.
Every time that music began blasting through the speakers, people began shooting their water guns, aiming at those closest to them.
“I’ve always heard about it but this is the first I participated in the event. It was good fun shooting strangers with water guns and having a good time together,” said a mother who had brought along her son.
Customers at nearby cafes and passersby looked on, with some taking their phones out to capture the rare occurrence of a water gun fight in the middle of one of the busiest areas in Seoul.
The temperature in Seoul hit a high of 32.9 degrees Celsius on the weekend.
