SEOUL, Oct. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — Amid an increase in the number of tourists visiting various attractions for viewing the autumn leaves, ticket scalping is thriving at famous forests with admission fees.
After buying admission tickets in advance, ticket scalpers are selling them at a higher price to visitors.
The number of visitors to Hwadam Botanic Garden in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province is increasing since the arboretum is adjacent to the greater Seoul area and its beauty is going viral.
Weekend tickets are already sold out for the entire operation period.
Against this backdrop, scalped tickets are selling on secondhand marketplace platforms such as Joonggonara.
Some uploaded posts indicate that admission tickets originally priced at 10,000 won (US$7.00) per adult are selling for two or three times as much.
After buying scores of admission tickets, ticket scalpers are reselling them at a higher price, with some selling tickets in packages of 10.
According to the data that Rep. Yoo Jung-ju of the Democratic Party received from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the number of ticket scalping cases reported during the first nine months of this year stood at 3,594, a sharp increase from 359 in 2020 and 785 in 2021.
