SEOUL, Mar. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — In an era where everyone can become a one-man creator, K-pop star auditions through mobile applications are now possible.
The short-form video sharing application TikTok introduced on Thursday that it will launch “Tik-Tok Spotlight,” a musician scout program on April 5.
TikTok, which was also honored as the world’s most downloaded app in 2018, is a platform that provides challenges and popular themes, allowing users to post content that contains their creativity and receive feedback from subscribers in real time.
The newly launched audition program is aimed at helping many artists reach their dream of becoming musicians using the app.
To that end, a number of leading domestic and foreign planning and production companies participated as partners.
The program will set up an application period for two months in South Korea and Japan from April 5.
The 15-second videos submitted by participants will be evaluated based on the number of videos, views and number of shares they have secured.
In the final round, 10 songs will be selected as final winners after screening as well as responses from users.
The benefits for the final winner are also eye-catching. Winners will be provided with a total of 100 million won (US$88,000) worth of music and music video production costs.
In addition, all proceeds from the official release of the winning songs will go to participating musicians, production companies and distributors, while TikTok will help with the global promotion and marketing of the songs.
The lineup of mentors and judges is also promising. Twelve singers, including Yoon Do-hyun, Yoon Min-soo, Dynamic Duo, Gummy and Kim Jun-soo will help the participants grow and conduct a fair evaluation.
They also attended the production presentation and wished for the success of the audition.
