SEOUL, May 19 (Korea Bizwire)TMON Inc., one of South Korea’s major e-commerce operators, said Wednesday it will introduce a new payroll system with gamification starting from July.

Under the new system, employees can earn higher salaries if they achieve higher levels by gaining experience points depending on individual performance.

They can get experience points through various channels, including performance, contribution, missions and events.

If their experience points satisfy the requirement of each level, their level is upgraded at a specific point of time every month, with their salary raised instantly.

As for the background behind the introduction of the new payroll system, TMON explained that to create a performance-centered work culture in which employees can work autonomously without being restrained by time and place, it’s important to provide instant assessment and rewards to them.

However, the existing payroll system is not appropriate to create such work culture, the company added.

“The new system will contribute to creating a new corporate culture that can help employees execute their tasks and support them to exert their maximum creativity and productivity,” TMON CEO Jang Yoon-seok said.
