SEOUL, June 17 (Korea Bizwire) — A tombstone has been set up in memory of Internet Explorer, the once ubiquitous web browser that was recently shut down by U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp.
A local online community posted a feed titled “Remembering its legacy” on Wednesday, in which a photo showed an actual tombstone set up in front of a cafe in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.
“My friend (IE) has finally left us,” the author said. “Even the parents (MS) threw him away, so no one was there to set up a mortuary for him. So, I asked my brother in Gyeongju to set one up.”
The black tombstone was inscribed with an IE logo and its service period (Aug. 15, 1995-June 15, 2022), with a quote that said “he was a good tool to download other browsers.”
A bouquet and a cup of liquor were seen placed in front of the tombstone as a symbol of tribute.
