TONGYEONG, Dec. 8 (Korea Bizwire)The southern port city of Tongyeong is set to launch a new project to develop marine waste into recyclable resources.

The city government on Monday held the final briefing session on its outsourced research result concerning the feasibility and basic plan for the establishment of a marine resource circulation center.

The marine resource circulation center is a processing facility that sorts and crushes various marine wastes and then turns them into ‘ingot,’ a raw material used for various daily necessities such as picture frames and spectacle frames, by using a compressor.

The city government also plans to install a high temperature pyrolysis facility that can produce white kerosene used for industrial equipment.

With a floor space of 1,976 square meters, the marine resource circulation center will be a two-story facility located in the city.

The new facility will be used to process the plastic waste from oyster farms and the byproducts generated during the process of replacing existing buoys with eco-friendly ones.

The city government expects these facilities to contribute to generating additional income and creating jobs through sales of ingots and white kerosene and a reduction in marine waste processing expenses.
