SEOUL, Aug. 12 (Korea Bizwire)The Olympic Sliding Centre, the cradle of the skeleton gold medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, has recently been upgraded with state-of-the-art technology.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on Wednesday that it had installed an artificial environment-embodied chamber and a virtual reality simulation training facility on the basis of state-of-the-art technology at the Olympic Sliding Centre, a training facility in PyeongChang, Gangwon Province for national bobsleigh and skeleton teams.

The chamber makes it possible to adjust the level of negative pressure (air pressure adjustment function) and positive pressure (oxygen respiration function), enabling training for adaptation to high altitude areas and physical restoration.

The ministry stressed that it was the first time in the world that a dual negative and positive pressure chamber had been used at bobsleigh and skeleton training facilities.

The virtual reality simulation training facility creates a simulation training environment by virtually embodying about ten major sports stadiums worldwide, including the stadium for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

Under circumstances in which overseas training could be challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the upgraded Olympic Sliding Centre is expected to contribute to creating a better training environment for the national teams.
