SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said Wednesday it will strengthen the benefits of its cost-saving public transport cards for low-income individuals, the recipients of basic livelihood security and young people between the ages of 19 and 39.
The card, dubbed as “Altteul Transport Card” provides public transport mileage of up to 20 percent in proportion to the moving distance by walking or bicycle, plus about 10 percent in additional discounts offered by card companies.
For instance, young people can accumulate mileage of up to 15,400 won (US$12.05) per month if they spend less than 2,000 won for public transportation fare per ride.
Starting from the beginning of next year, the mileage can be extended to 22,000 won if their spending ranges between 2,000 and 3,000 won, and up to 28,600 won if their spending is more than 3,000 won per ride, the ministry said.
For low-income individuals, the monthly mileage of up to 22,000 won is accumulated when spending on public transportation fares is less than 2,000 won per ride.
When spending ranges from 2,000 won to 3,000 won, up to 30,800 won in mileage is accrued, and when spending is more than 3,000 won, up to 39,600 won in mileage can be earned.
The mileage is paid only when cardholders use public transportation more than 15 times a month, and can be accumulated within a limit of 44 trips on public transportation per month.
