SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced that T-Safer, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based traffic accident risk forecast system, will be rolled out across national highways on Thursday.

T-Safer was jointly developed by the two agencies. It is an AI-based system that uses big data for traffic information to analyze risk factors for car accidents and provide solutions.

The service integrates a variety of traffic data scattered throughout several agencies including driving patterns, past records of accidents and driving to forecast the risk of accidents in four levels for every 500 meters of the highway.

A higher level indicates that the risk and the severity of a car accident are higher.

In areas where the risk level reaches 3 or higher, the system creates a safety report carrying a comprehensive risk analysis and safety solutions for accident prevention on every 15th day of the month, which is sent to the road operator.

The T-Safer system uses CCTV footage to analyze car speed, traffic flow and hazardous driving patterns to notify the driver in real-time when the risk of a traffic accident increases, through variable message signs on the road.
