BONGHWA, Oct. 26 (Korea Bizwire)Baekdudaegan National Arboretum (BDNA) and Tree Planet are distributing trees for adoption as part of a push to protect and restore the ecosystem of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range.

The BDNA announced on Thursday that the adoption project, which began in early October, raised 10 million won in just ten days, thanks to some 300 donations.

The project offers ‘pet trees’ to participants who make a donation, with the proceeds used to plant rhododendrons, an endangered plant species, in the alpine regions of the Baekdu-daegan Mountain Range managed by the BDNA.

The rhododendron is Baekdudaegan’s most representative tree, and grows in alpine regions over 1,000 meters above sea level. The tree is called Manbyungcho in Korean, which means ‘cure-all grass’.

It can be found around the peaks of Mount Paektu, Mount Seorak, Mount Jiri, and on Ulleung Island, and can survive harsh temperatures under -30 degrees Celsius.

The BDNA and Tree Planet are looking to use this opportunity to raise awareness about the ecosystem as well as the endangered species in the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range, and have participants experience the chance to actually plant trees.

The project will continue until November 11th via Tumblbug, a crowdfunding platform (https://tumblbug.com/mytreeplanet03).
