YESAN, Aug. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — Chungcheongnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services (CNARES) in Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province is piloting the cultivation of subtropical crops such as papaya and water spinach.
Since May, CNARES has set up a demonstration farm of subtropical crops to grow 9 kinds of fruits, 15 kinds of green vegetables and 8 kinds of root vegetables.
The project is designed to find optimal conditions to cultivate subtropical crops that can be grown in the province and to expand the distribution of farms.
“The temperature in South Chungcheong Province is expected to rise 3.2 degrees by 2020, turning most of the regions, except for parts of the inland, into subtropical climates,” said Lee Joong-won, a researcher at the CNARES.
