PALEMBANG, Indonesia, Oct. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — International travel service provider Trip.com recently sent volunteers to SDN 042 Palembang, South Sumatra to provide haze management guidance. The educational activity was followed up with the handover of assistance packages consisting of masks and school equipment for students affected by the haze hazard.

Stanly Fredrik Napoleon, General Manager of Indonesia, Trip.com, said that this was Trip.com’s way of supporting victims in the local community. “Trip.com sees the urgency to give support for the haze disaster victims, specifically students. We hope that the haze assistance provided will serve to motivate students to be more aware of the haze hazard.”

The haze that blanketed the whole of Sumatra Island, as well as neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore, hampered student activities. Due to the health risks that can be caused by haze, outside student activities are temporarily put on hold. Outdoor activities such as flag ceremonies and sports lessons are moved indoors. Trip.com noticed the need to respond to the crisis.

“SDN 042 Palembang highly appreciates the initiatives led by Trip.com. During the haze disaster, many students become more reluctant and have difficulty going to school. The haze assistance provided by Trip.com helps the students to do activities in school and fills SDN 042 Palembang Students with enthusiasm,” said Mrs. Ruslina Tampubolon, Principal of SDN 042 Palembang.

As Trip.com’s parent company Ctrip Group celebrates its 20th anniversary in the following weeks, social work is becoming a focal point for the company. The haze management education in Indonesia is one way in which Trip.com is giving back to communities and building awareness to improve safety and prevent potential threats.

Trip.com also provided five simple steps to deal with haze for the public, specifically for students affected in Sumatra and Kalimantan. Young people need to be aware of haze management principles, in case a similar event occurs in the future.
