SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korea Internet Self-governance Organization (KISO) revealed on November 27 that it will participate in an online content conference to be held at UCLA next month.
An industry group set up by tech companies like Naver, Daum and SK Communications, KISO is tasked with moderating major web portals for illegal and unsavory content.
At UCLA’s “All Things in Moderation: The People, Practices and Politics of Online Content Review – Human and Machine” that is scheduled for December 6 and 7, representatives of KISO will speak on the efforts of the organization to moderate the Korean web.
A spokesperson for KISO said, “Because of the United States’ tradition that prizes freedom of expression, there were no restrictions in place regarding internet postings and search words.”
Regarding the upcoming conference at UCLA, the spokesperson explained, “In the last American election, the discussion on cleaning up online content began in earnest because of the problem of fake news. It appears as though from there the locals began to take an interest in the South Korean model.”
