SEOUL, Nov. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — Members of various civic groups seeking the truth behind the Jeju Uprising killings held a press conference yesterday during which they appealed to the U.S. to take responsibility for the massacre.
The members also delivered a petition reflecting such views and signed by 100,000 people to the U.S. Embassy in Korea.
Activists have been carrying out a campaign that calls on the U.S. to take responsibility for the killings during the Jeju Uprising since October of last year.
The activists claim that the U.S. military dispatched Col. Rothwell H. Brown to Korea immediately following the Jeju Uprising, and that he was instrumental in carrying out the mass killings after taking control of all operations.
“The U.S. must speak out the truth regarding the massacre,” claimed the activists.
The activists also claimed that the events following the uprising were a crime against humanity.
“In order to create a new world order based on humanity and peace, the U.S. must speak the truth regarding the dark events of the Cold War era,” continued the activists.
