ANDONG, Oct. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province is investing nearly 34.4 billion won to create a new seaside healthcare complex by 2022 which will use marine resources to help prevent and treat patients.
According to the North Gyeongsang Provincial Government on Tuesday, Uljin County has been chosen by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries for the location of the new marine medical center project.
Marine healthcare refers to medical treatment and prevention using marine resources including seawater, sea breeze, sand, and seaweed, to name a few.
For the new project, Uljin County will be on the receiving end of 11.8 billion won in government funding, as well as 12.4 billion won in private capital to go forward with the new construction project, which will see a large healthcare complex built in the proximity of the local landmark Wolsongjeong Pavilion that will consist of a marine research center, medical center and recreational facilities.
Uljin County is hopeful comprehensive medical treatment and aftercare will be made available when the project is complete, thanks to a number of attractions located nearby including the Deokgu and Baekam hotsprings.
“We hope to create new business opportunities in the East Coast region through healthcare services that combine treatment, vacation and leisure based on marine resources,” said Kim Jang-joo, a government official responsible for administration in North Gyeongsang Province.
