ULSAN, April 24 (Korea Bizwire) — The southeastern coastal city of Ulsan is setting up artificial bass spawning grounds around Samho Island in the Taehwa River to eradicate the bass, a fish species that has been invasive to the local ecosystem.
The bass eggs found in the artificial spawning grounds will be removed by city officials.
City officials will check the breeding grounds two or three times a week to remove the eggs, considering that bass eggs hatch in four or five days.
The city will set up 20 artificial spawning grounds and operate them until mid-July when the spawning season is over.
The city has been operating artificial breeding grounds since 2009, removing between 200,000 to 450,000 eggs every year.
