ULSAN, Jun. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — A new whale-themed 3D movie theater is set to open soon at Jangsaengpo in Ulsan, with the new complex boasting large circular screens that covering all of the interior walls, giving visitors a virtual experience of exploring the deep sea and observing whales up close.

The ‘5D’ whale-watching theater can accommodate up to 80 people at a time, with a screen that is 13 meters in diameter and 5 meters in height, creating the impression for viewers standing in the center that they are deep under the sea.

Going with Jangsaengpo’s theme of a ‘whale culture village’, whale-themed short movies, accompanied by sound and visual effects that complement the video content will be played.

The 11-minute-long movie titled ‘The Return of the Gray Whale’, with the main plot of a gray whale working together with a blue whale to fend off attacks from prehistoric sharks before coming back home to the shore of Jangsaengpo, is one of the movies playing at the theater, a guaranteed hit with children.

According to officials from the facility, other movies are scheduled to be filmed, while additional plans will see the whale-themed movie theater exchange video content with similar facilities operating in other areas.

The exterior design of the building resembles the shape of a gray whale jumping above the surface of the sea, while the floor above the 3D movie theater will be occupied by a cafeteria and an observatory.

The head of Nam District, where the new 3D movie theater is located, says the new facility isn’t just another addition to the tourism infrastructure in the region, but a stepping stone to the future of the whale tourism business which the local community relies on.

“With plans to build a waterfront space later this year and a monorail next March finalized, Jangsaengpo will be revitalized as a special whale culture district.”
