ULSAN, Mar. 15 (Korea Bizwire) – The Ulsan Port Authority celebrated the completion of the ‘North New Port Liquid Terminal’ in Hwangseong-dong, Nam-gu, at the North Port of Ulsan on March 15.

The new facility, boasting a 300-meter quay wall, a 440-meter sheltered harbor, and a 12,600 square meter port hinterland, represents a significant enhancement to the port’s infrastructure.

The project, which saw an investment of 91.6 billion won, commenced in January 2021 and concluded in February of this year.

Designed to accommodate vessels up to 50,000 tons, the terminal is poised to significantly boost the Port of Ulsan’s liquid cargo handling capacity by approximately 1.5 million tons annually, thereby elevating the port’s competitive edge.

However, the terminal’s operation, including the selection of operational businesses and hinterland reclamation, is only slated to begin around 2030.

The Ulsan Port Authority harbors ambitious plans to transform the facility into the world’s first hydrogen terminal, aligning with its vision to emerge as a leading green port.

With the first half of this year earmarked for the recruitment and selection of operational businesses among enterprises using the Port of Ulsan, authorities are moving swiftly towards operational readiness.

Kim Jae-gyun, president of the Ulsan Port Authority, highlighted the terminal’s role in the government’s leading hydrogen port project, with an expected annual handling capacity of 320,000 tons of hydrogen starting in 2030.

This development is anticipated to substantially contribute to strengthening the Port of Ulsan’s competitiveness.
