SEOUL, July 6 (Korea Bizwire) – Ulsan’s shipbuilding career support center recently marked its successful first year, having helped tens of thousands of jobseekers find employment in the field, center officials said on Wednesday.

According to the career center, as of last month, employment benefits and job seeking support had been provided more than 71,000 times since the facility opened in July 2016.

Among those who received helped from the shipbuilding career center, nearly half were job seekers, while just over 35 percent were able to claim unemployment benefits with the assistance of the center. The center also provided job training programs and helped farmers and fishermen return to their respective vocations.

“As the center has been running smoothly, we’ve seen an increasing number of job seekers who now have a job after using our job seeking support program,” an official at the center said.

Last year, the government launched the job center specializing in shipbuilding in Ulsan in an effort to help those seeking and pursuing a career in the field.

With the South Korean shipbuilding industry facing tough times, Ulsan’s shipbuilding career center is scheduled to stay open until June 2018.
