‘Unification Medals’ to Fund Humanitarian Programs with North Korea

SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Korea Bizwire) – KOMSCO (the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation) unveiled ‘Unification Medals’ Thursday ahead of the 71st Liberation Day, celebrated yearly on August 15. 

The medals come in four different types: a gold medal (62.2g gold; 5.5 million won), gold-silver medal (7.5g gold, 1kg silver; 2.97 million won), silver medal (31.1g silver; 132,000 won), and a bronze medal (26g nickel; 40,000 won). 

KOMSCO said that all proceeds from the sales will go to a fund that supports humanitarian exchange and aid programs with North Korea.

Sales will kick off on Tuesday August 16 on a first-come-first-served basis at Shinhan and Nonghyup banks, post offices, and on the Poongsan Hwadong website, which sells collectible coins and currency.
