Yangyang, Aug. 26 (Korea Bizwire) - “I learned that if you work together, children can pull an airplane.”
An unusual contest where contestants pull an airplane with manpower has been held at the Yangyang International Airport.
The event was hosted by the FunFun Cultural Foundation to help children with cancer. It is a common event abroad but a first in Korea.
Five teams were invited by the host, including a team of politicians and a comedian/MC team. In addition, 25-member teams that consisted of children as well as adults participated, for a total of 27 teams.
The competition was to see which team could pull a Boeing 737-700 aircraft from Eastar airlines three meters forward in the shortest amount of time.
Ex-Prime Minister Jung Woon-chan, who was the head of the contest committee, hoped that this could be a start to create a better society. “We wanted children with cancer and their families to find hope through the contest. Just like how people can pull an airplane when they work together, we believe that the warm gestures of people can help children with cancer as well as their families.”
Park So-yoon (11), a girl who entered the contest from the Eunpyung Children’s Choir, shared her thoughts on the contest. “We could move the airplane in no time when we worked together. I hope the ill children will get better soon and play with us too.”
