SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — As the coronavirus pandemic continues to rage on, universities are preparing to hold commencement ceremonies online.
Seoul National University, after cancelling all commencement ceremonies in February, is preparing to hold ceremonies online in August through a series of videos .
To accommodate as many students as possible, the university is collecting pictures, videos and other media from students through an online link.
Yonsei University and Chung-Ang University also plan to create graduation videos starring a minimum number of students and award winners and posting them on university websites and YouTube channels on graduation day.
Some universities have decided to opt for online live broadcasting. Ewha Womans University and Hongik University, for instance, plan to hold commencement ceremonies online through live broadcasting on YouTube on graduation day.
Offline participation will be limited to the student president, award winners and other selected individuals to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Students were somewhat disappointed with the idea of an online graduation. Some students accepted the plan as long as they could take graduation photos.
“It is rather disappointing to graduate online, but I’m good as long as I can take a graduation photo with my family,” said an Seoul National University student ahead of graduation.
