CHUNCHEON, July 24 (Korea Bizwire) – Small beaches near the East Sea are gaining popularity as an increasing number of people are afraid of visiting popular beaches due to the coronavirus.
Less known beaches and campsites hidden in six cities and counties in the east coast, including Jukdo and Ingu, are now being visited by an increasing number of travelers.
Driving across the coast, one can easily find vacationers who brought their so-called ‘camping cars’ to enjoy the cool sea breeze.
“There are more people out here camping at the beach since last month, most likely because of the coronavirus and summer,” said a local store owner in Ingu Beach. “There seem to be more people than last year.”
Travelers were seen enjoying the serenity of the smaller beaches in their own tents, keeping enough distance from each other.
The old Daegwallyeong Service Area along the Yeongdong Expressway, another hidden hotspot for summer vacation, was also bustling with campers in their cars and tents, located 830 meters above sea level, and 7 to 10 degrees cooler than average temperatures in Gangneung, about 20 minutes away by car, in the summer.
