SEOUL, Feb. 8 (Korea Bizwire)Nguyen Cong Phuong, a member of the Vietnamese men’s national football team, is soon to join South Korean football club Incheon United FC.

“We are currently negotiating with Cong Phuong,” said a source from Incheon United. “We plan to make an official announcement next week.”

Once the transfer is confirmed, Cong Phuong will become the second Vietnamese football player to play his trade in the South Korean national league.

Luong Xuan Truong, currently a midfielder at Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC in Vietnam, was the first Vietnamese player to wear a K League uniform back in 2016.

Cong Phuong, also known as “Vietnam’s own Lionel Messi”, is the star striker for the Vietnamese national football team led by South Korean head coach Park Hang-seo.

His exceptional speed and mobility were more than enough to win him second place at the 2018 AFC U-23 as well as the AFF Suzuki Cup.

Incheon United plans to extend contracts with forward Stefan Mugosa, responsible for 19 goals last season, and defender Gordan Bunoza.

The team recently recruited Jiloan Hamad, a member of the Swedish national football team. Cong Phuong will become Incheon United’s most recent foreign recruit.
