SEOUL, March 2 (Korea Bizwire) — In commemoration of the 103rd anniversary of the March 1 Independence Movement, historical sites have been rebuilt on metaverse platforms to commemorate the 1919 nationwide uprising against Japan’s colonial rule.
Seodaemun Prison History Hall, a former colonial prison in central Seoul, released a virtual map on metaverse platform Zepeto last month, recreating the old prison in a virtual space.
The map recreates prison cells where independence fighters and democratization activists were incarcerated, as well as cafeterias and a gymnasium.
Gyeonggyojang was also virtually recreated in the Zepeto last November.
It last housed the Korean Provisional Government and the office and residence of Kim Koo, the head of the government, from 1945 until 1949 when Kim was assassinated there by a political opponent.
The Museum of Japanese Colonial History in Korea has also set up virtual exhibition halls on another metaverse platform Gather Town.
