SEOUL, May 26 (Korea Bizwire) – Volkswagen Group Korea has embraced its role as a corporate citizen by establishing a nonprofit foundation to commemorate two decades in the South Korean auto market.

On May 23, the company, led by President and CEO Till Scheer, announced the launch of the Volkswagen Group WE: Foundation, a philanthropic arm granted nonprofit status by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The foundation’s name combines “Volkswagen Group,” reflecting its identity as an innovative, sustainable mobility company, with the Korean word “uri,” meaning “we” to symbolize cooperation, unity and inclusiveness.

Its dual missions are to promote sustainable growth and fulfill corporate social responsibility, while focusing on education, the environment and community outreach — building on Volkswagen Group Korea’s existing charitable legacy in the country.

With financial backing from Volkswagen AG and its Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley brands, the foundation aims to take a more proactive and systematic approach to its philanthropic efforts in South Korea.

Initiatives will include WE:Learn, cultivating talent in vehicle software; WE:Preserve, running environmental programs like pursuing carbon neutrality; and WE:Share, supporting underserved populations and strengthening local communities.

“As we mark our 20th anniversary in Korea, we are launching this foundation to meaningfully contribute to society as a community member, drive positive growth and help shape a sustainable future together,” said Scheer.

He added that the establishment of the foundation will help bolster trust in the Volkswagen Group and its brands across South Korea.
