Seoul, July 23 (Korea Bizwire) – It has become possible to watch a movie in bed, even if you’re actually at a movie theater. Tempur Cinema, a multiplex theater with Tempur beds, has opened at CGV CINE de CHEF in Apgujeong.
CINE de CHEF is a cultural space with a premium multiplex theater, a restaurant of 80 seats, and small sized meeting places. Among two premium theaters, one has changed into a theater where you can watch a movie in bed.
According to CGV and Tempur Korea, there have been attempts in other countries to put beds in theaters, but most of them just put mattresses on wooden boards, only creating a ‘bedroom-ish’ atmosphere, so the beds were not that comfortable. In contrast, the Tempur Cinema actually modified the theater into a bedroom with beds from Tempur.
30 Tempur beds are set in five rows at CGV Apgujeong. The beds are electric recliners equipped with Tempur mattresses. Using a remote control, movie-goers can change the recliner into a bed.
Slippers and blankets are provided, and a small table is set next to the bed, acting as a convenient place for customers to put their sodas or snacks. Slippers, blankets and pillow cases are changed after every movie, and sheets are changed once a day.
Tempur is famous for using a new material NASA developed for astronauts to make mattresses and pillows. The company explains that their products distribute pressure created by bodyweight, making the user as comfortable as possible.
Chae Eun-jin from Tempur Korea Marketing emphasizes the positive effects of the mattresses. “The mattress molds to the shape of one’s body, and distributes the pressure caused by bodyweight. While watching a movie, one can experience comfort as if they had escaped the influence of gravity.”
Even though the admission fee of 40,000won is expensive for the average movie buff, the theater hopes to attract those who want to ‘really’ relax and watch a movie in a special way.
