Seoul, Korea, August 21 (Korea Bizwire) – According to Copyright Protection Center at Korea Federation of Copyright Organizations, the number of webhards and P2P websites has nearly halved thanks to the webhard registration system in South Korea. Due to the decrease in the number of webhards, hotbeds of the pirates, the number of postings containing pirated articles has also been decreased by 74.2%.
The webhard registration system, which took effect on May 21st, 2012, mandates webhards and P2P websites to meet the criteria by Telecommunications Business Act.
After webhard registration was enforced, the main distribution channel of pirated materials has been shifted from webhard•P2P to torrent. Hence, copyright special judicial police of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism conducted crackdown on the pirates on torrents in May. Copyright Protection Center and copyright organizations followed on by prosecuting illegal torrents in July.
