SEOUL, Dec. 6 (Korea Bizwire) – Prospective job seekers hoping to land a job with Sempio, a local food manufacturer, will now have to practice their chopsticks skills.

The company announced Monday that it will implement job test that evaluates applicants’ chopsticks skills starting in December.

Interviewers will observe the use of chopsticks with the sole purpose of evaluating if the applicants understand the value and the importance of chopsticks culture, and if they can accurately use the instruments, in addition to their overall attitude.

According to a company HR official, Sempio has already been teaching the correct use of chopsticks to new recruits, and it merely decided to implement the program to its recruiting platform so that applicants would sympathize with Sempio’s corporate values and philosophy.

Sempio has long been emphasizing the importance of chopsticks as a food instrument, entreating its employees to educate themselves with basic knowledge and grow affection towards Korean food culture.

The new test will add to the recruitment process’s “cooking assessment”, introduced in 2000, which evaluates the process of cooking by four to five applicants in one group. The procedure is used to assess the applicants’ personality, creativity, team work, and leadership, qualities that would otherwise be difficult to examine solely from resumes and cover letters.
