DAEGU, April 30 (Korea Bizwire) — A wildfire reignited on a mountain in the southeastern city of Daegu on Wednesday, prompting authorities to issue evacuation alerts to nearby residents and a national mobilization order.
The fire, which began Monday afternoon on Mount Hamji in northern Daegu, about 230 kilometers southeast of Seoul, was extinguished nearly 23 hours later on Tuesday afternoon after scorching 260 hectares of land and forcing more than 2,000 people to evacuate.
On Tuesday evening, however, the fire reignited on parts of the mountain.
According to the Korea Forest Service (KFS), the fire is spreading since reigniting, with an estimated fire line stretching about 2.1 kilometers.
At around 5:13 p.m. Wednesday, authorities issued an emergency alert, warning residents living near the area to evacuate.
The KFS said it issued the evacuation order as a precaution.
Around 190 personnel and 41 helicopters have currently been deployed to the scene to extinguish the fires.
The scale of the fires has not been determined, but significant plumes of smoke were reportedly seen at the site.
